Winn-Dixie 10

Opal and Gloria went under the tree and began talking. Opal told Gloria Dump she was missing her mama, and that Opal and Winn-Dixie got invited to Sweetie Pies birthday party. She also told her about how she got a job from Otis at Getrude's pets shop. Then they planted a tree.

Winn-Dixie 7-8

Opal went to the pet store to get a red collar and leash for Winn-Dixie. She offered to work sweeping the floor, so she could get enough money to pay for it. The man at the counter said the parrot named Gertrude would not like her dog. Even though the parrot didn't like dogs it jumped on Winn-Dixie's head and they became friends. Opal got a job!

Opal was riding her bike with Winn-Dixie when she passed Dunlap and Stevie Dewberry's house; they followed her. Winn-Dixie ran into a yard and the boys told Opal the witch lived there! They said
she was a witch and they said the witch eats animals and would eat her dog! Opal went into the house anyway, to save her dog and there she met Gloria Dump. She was nice and gave Opal a sandwich and they talked and became friends!

Winn-Dixie 6-7

Opal spent time over the summer at Herman H. Block Memorial Library. Opal met a woman with short gray hair, and she was the first friend she made in Naomi. Her name was Miss Franny; she was the librarian. Winn-Dixie did not like it when she went into the library, because he couldn't go inside. She let Winn-Dixie in the library because he was a special dog.

Miss Franny told Opal a story about the bear. A bear came in the library and Miss Franny threw a book at it . Miss Franny also said her dad built the library along time ago.

Winn-Dixie 4-5

Opal and the preacher sat down on the couch; he told Opal ten things about her mama. He said she didn't know how to cook, but she could "plant a tire in the ground and grow a car!" He also said she could run real fast and she would sit and listen to stories all day long when. When he was finished telling her about her mama she was happy but she was missing her.

Opal and the preacher went to church and they brought Winn-Dixie with them. There was a mouse at the church staying there eating the left over crumbs. Winn-Dixie chased the mouse and caught him, and then he took it to the preacher and the preacher threw it out the door. Opal prayed for her mama and the mouse. She prayed the mouse would not get hurt and Opal also prayed for her mama to know she got Winn-Dixie for a dog.
